About Kevin

As your councilmember, I’ll focus on the basics - the nuts and bolts that keep our community safe, clean, and affordable. After all, the city council isn’t the place to fight about national or state partisan politics.  City council is where we work together on the day-to-day problems that need maintenance or improvement. It’s my commitment to you that I will hold the City of Elk Grove accountable for how we spend our hard-earned money and make the city transparent so we can easily see where our money goes.

When I say I’ll focus on the basics, I mean I will use science to decide when and how we reopen safely while helping businesses and families through the COVID crisis. I mean making sure our public safety is fully funded and trained to handle crisis and de-escalate violence. I mean keeping our streets free of potholes and reducing traffic by bringing more jobs and entertainment back here where we live. And I mean keeping our neighborhoods clean and safe while planting more trees around the community for much needed shade.

I grew up in Elk Grove. I rode my bike to Pleasant Grove Elementary School and was active in 4-H. I’ve seen a lot of changes as we’ve grown… some for the better and some for the worse. As a local Planning Commissioner, I’ve been a voice for smart growth: making sure we have the schools, streets, and other infrastructure before we allow new housing. It’s better to go slow and do it right than face the additional costs and frustration of trying to fix a jam-packed city later.

When I was 17, I volunteered for the California Army National Guard as Military Police. Later, I joined the US Air Force and served in combat building munitions for A-10 aircraft. This time in the military really shaped my sense of civic pride and duty.

After the military I worked for a defense contractor and later, my wife Angela and I, started our own cyber-security firm. I know the pressures of starting and running my own business. I know the devastation that COVID has caused many of our local small businesses. As your councilman I will be focused on making sure the rules for re-opening safely are clear and I will help our local business owners meet the standards.

I’ve been married to Angela for 31 years. She is a welcome partner in our public service together… offering wise counsel and making it very clear when I’m wrong or off base. We have a son, Jeremy who is 28 years old. Last but not least we are expecting a new puppy to join our household soon. Together we are committed to listening to you and continuing our service to our community. Vote Kevin Spease for City Council D3 on November 3rd!
